Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy
PRP has shown great promise in treating a wide variety of conditions. It involves obtaining a small blood sample from the patient which is similar to a routine blood test taken at the doctors. This sample is spun to form a special solution, PRP, which has 2-8 times the amount of healing factors compared to normal blood. It is natural and contains the individuals own healing factors. Research has shown that injecting PRP superficially into the scalp improves hair growth. At AURA, we provide this treatment in accordance with recommendations by the latest research.
Minoxidil topical application
Research has shown that Minoxidil is an effective therapy in improving hair growth. It can be applied as a foam to the wet scalp twice a day. It requires continued use for its benefit. It has very few side effects and therefore is quite popular.
Finasteride tablets
Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is the hormone that causes hair loss in the majority of cases. It is formed when a naturally occurring enzyme called alpha reductase converts testosterone to DHT. Finasteride blocks the alpha reductase enzyme and therefore reduces the levels of DHT. Research has shown it is one of the best treatments for improving hair growth. It requires continued use for its effect.
In patients taking Finasteride, 2.1 to 3.8% may suffer from side effects of reduced sexual desire and erectile dysfunction. This usually reverses in the majority of patients as they continue to take Finasteride or if they cease treatment.
Low level Laser Therapy application (LLLT)
LLLT involves exposing hair to low level lasers in a specific frequency. It has shown to be effective in improving hair growth. LLLT activates pathways in the head to improve hair growth. It requires application for approximately half an hour, three times a week.
